10K PB!

Last weekend I ran the Sporting Life 10K race for the first time. This is the "biggest" race in Toronto with 12,000 runners, but I've never got around to running it. It's also downhill most of the way, so it can't be compared to any other races...

I managed to snag a complimentary entry a few weeks ago, so I hadn't trained much for it. In fact I ran an exhausting 35K training run the weekend before! So much for a race taper. Still, I managed to turn in a 40:01 time, averaging almost exactly 4:00/km. Pretty damn fast for an old guy like me! My placing was 296th out of 11,918 and in the M45-49 category I placed 24/576.

Here are my splits according to RunKeeper, my iPhone app that uses GPS to track my runs and thinks to race was really 10.19K long:

kmpaceclimb (m)
13:55-12
23:40-9
33:58-6
43:44-27
54:001
64:04-12
73:528
83:49-19
94:02-11
103:55-5
114:162

For an encore, I ran back up to the start to meet my friends for a coffee. That took 56:00 minutes...
