Rome-mania

I caught the first episode of HBO's new miniseries Rome, co-produced with the BBC, last night. Wow. Really punchy presentation. The violence and nudity are a bit heavy, but the production is excellent. Michael Apted is directing the first three episodes, and he sure knows his way around a screenplay.

The whole Julius Caesar thing has been pretty well covered, but watching it from the viewpoint of two soldiers gives it a fresh feel. Lots of authentic details, filmed in Italy with a very strong cast. I think I have my new Sunday night appointment!
