Still recovering

I'm still recovering from the weekend... Sheryl's Aussie Barbecue was a great success, even though we had a few brief showers. My playlist was a big hit, loaded with Australian tracks that everyone recognised, sometimes with surprise. Sheryl made an amazing chocolate cake with ice cream cones around the edges. It had to be eaten fast though. Someone from the Stone's entourage did show up, as well as a number of Australian film people (they shall all remain nameless...). I had started the day with a long "spinning" class and had a lot of heavy gear to shift for the sound system, so I was pooped before we even started but that didn't stop me from going until 2:00 AM on a Sunday night. Then I had to pack everything up again!

I taped the German Formula One race, in Hockenheim, as Brian was out of town until that night. We watched in Monday evening. An interesting start, with Kimi Raikkonen finally able to keep his front row qualifying position. Instead it was his team mate Juan Pablo Montoya who started at the back of the grid because of a crash during his qualifying run. Jenson Button was beside Kimi in his BAR, with the two Renaults behind. There was a good battle in the first lap, but Kimi stayed ahead and began to pull away from everyone else. Montoya gained ten places on the first lap alone, and continued to advance through out the race. He eventually finished second. Unfortunately Kimi was forced to retire about half way through the race when his engine gave out again. This allowed Alonso to take over and he was never under threat. In the closing stages of the race there was some fun as Michael Schumacher, in second place despite an un-competitive Ferrari, struggled to fend off his challengers. Michael's tires were losing grip, and he faded back to fifth.

Kimi's string of bad luck makes Alonso's bid to be the youngest ever Grand Prix champion, at 23, look pretty secure. Jack played bumper cars with some of the new drivers, and had a bad result as a consequence.
